Maggie at a glance

Close portrait of Maggie looking at the camera

Maggie is a homebody who spends most of her time indoors, though she does venture outside. As queen of the house, she has free rein everywhere, although she is discouraged from the kitchen benches.

Likes Chats, cuddles, head scratches, treats, and her window hammock.

Dislikes The neighbour's cat, Ollie.

Daily care

The Maggie routine

The short version: check food and water, offer treats, enjoy the chats.

01

Automatic feeder

The dry-food feeder dispenses 1 portion six times a day.

Check that food is coming out. The feeder can occasionally jam. Extra dry food is in the bucket in the hall cupboard. If in doubt, scoop food into Maggie's bowl; unlimited dry food is fine if needed.

02

Treat protocol

5-8 breakfast treats every morning. Treats also work as a bribe for a cuddle in bed.

Find them in the kitchen and by the bed.

03

Water

Check the water fountain in the kitchen and top it up if the level is getting low.

04

Coming & going

The microchip-controlled cat door is in the back door and should automatically let her in.

There is no litter tray; Maggie toilets outside.

Make yourself at home

Help yourself

Please help yourself to anything in the house, including food, drinks, coffee pods, and anything else you need during your stay.

Sheets & towels

Extra sheets and towels are in the hallway cupboard. No need to wash anything before you leave.

Rubbish & recycling

Collection is normally Wednesday, or a day later after a public holiday. Rubbish and food scraps are collected every week; recycling is every other week. The countdowns at the top of the iPad dashboard show the next pickup dates.

Benchtop dishwasher

Before each cycle, fill it manually through the water inlet on top. It will beep when it has enough water and drains directly into the sink.

Around the neighbourhood

Getting around

Useful local notes for a longer stay.

Kauri Glen Reserve

The Mahuta Grove entrance is only about 50 metres away, at the end of the street. The main path is an easy walk of around 20 minutes, with a treetop boardwalk through mature native bush.

Buses to the city

Walk about 10 minutes to the St Mary's stops on Onewa Road, beside the Z station. For downtown and Britomart, look for the 95B, 95C, 97B, or 97R.

The ride into the city is usually around 15-20 minutes. Citybound stop: 3957.
